Sonia I. Negron, 58, of Willimantic, CT, passed away peacefully on October 4th, 2025, surrounded by her loved ones, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Sonia was born on October 21st, 1966, in Puerto Rico to Juanita Benitez. She grew up on Long Island, where she developed a lifelong love of dancing.
Sonia was known for her love, kindness, honesty, and dependability. She dedicated her life to caring for her family and spreading joy to those around her. She enjoyed spending time in nature, exploring new things, going to the movies, dancing, and trying new foods. She was an avid collector of Betty Boop and Minnie Mouse memorabilia, a reflection of her playful spirit. Her favorite colors were pink and purple. And while she did not like to cook, she could throw down in the kitchen — she made a mean cheesecake. Above all, Sonia will be remembered for her warmth and her gift for connecting with anyone about anything.
Sonia is survived by her sons Luis Negron and his wife Mary Rygielski of Bozrah, and Carlos Santos of Hartford; her grandchildren Joshua, Isaiah, Andrew, Amaya, and Neily; her sister Maria Del Valle Credle and husband Curtis Credle; her nieces and nephews Latoya, Shantay, and Jayquan; her brother Richard Darmetko and partner Marrah Rottino; and her nephew Noah. She was preceded in death by her beloved mother, Juanita Benitez, and brother, Felix Del Valle.
Family and friends are invited to join the family during calling hours on Friday, October 10th, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 pm. followed by a funeral service at 2:30 pm at Potter Funeral Home, 456 Jackson Street, Willimantic, CT. Friends and family are invited to attend and celebrate Sonia’s life. We invite you to wear pink in honor of Sonia and her courageous battle with cancer.
