Sonja Elaine Matthews Corley, 84, received her Heavenly Reward on May 12, 2025, following a brief illness, surrounded by her loving family.
Sonja was born on October 25, 1940, to Duvon Walton and Ethel Pauline Matthews in Dallas, Georgia where she was a lifelong resident. Sonja retired from the Paulding County School District where she worked in the central office for many years. She was a devoted member of Narroway Baptist Church and truly demonstrated the love of Jesus by showing kindness to everyone.
Sonja's greatest joy in life was in spending time and creating memories with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Affectionately known as "Mama'nem", she made sure all birthdays and holidays were celebrated. She was the best caregiver - her door was always open and she was just a phone call away for anyone in need. Sonja also enjoyed gardening, planting beautiful flowers in the yard through the years - many transplanted from relatives and friends. She also loved going shopping, out to lunch with her friends, and attending church functions.
Sonja is survived by her loving husband, Jimmie Ray Corley, children, Jeff Corley, Joey Corley (Tracy), Ginger Corley, and Chris Corley (Lori), grandchildren, Brooke Kendall (Tyler), Blake Corley (Terina), Adam Corley, Kaley Corley, Ansley Johnson (Brent) and Erin Corley, great-grandchildren, Hannah Moore (Garrett), Austin Doty, Baylee Kendall, Logan Skinner, and Halen Johnson.
She was preceded in death by her parents and stillborn son, Jimmie Ray Corley, Jr.
Visitation will be held at Clark Funeral Home on Saturday, May 17, 2025 from 4 to 7 pm. Celebration of Life Service will be held at Narroway Baptist Church on Sunday, May 18,2025 at 2 pm, with Rev. Todd Tibbitts, and Rev. Jimmy Tibbitts officiating.
Serving as pallbearers will be nephews Derek Lawrence, Jason Matthews, Josh Matthews, Tim Carruth, Jerry Shearin, David Corley, and grandsons Tyler Kendall and Brent Johnson.
