Sonya graduated from Karns High School in 1980. It was in high school that she began to date the love of her life, David Stooksbury. They were married September 26, 1982. They loved and worked side-by-side with one another for 43 years.
David was the pastor of Trinity Baptist Church from August 1997 until October 2024. Sonya was his administrative assistant for the entire time. She was a devoted servant of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. A wonderful wife, mother and grandma.
Sonya was preceded in death by her father, Bill Gillespie; mother, Shirley Gillespie; and brother, Tim Gillespie.
She is survived by her husband, David Stooksbury; son, Jacob Stooksbury; grandchildren, Catie Stooksbury, Addie Stooksbury, and Cason Stooksbury.
We want to extend our deep gratitude to the folks at UT Hospice, especially her nurse, Katarina Kataria.
Family and friends will meet at 1:45 PM on Saturday, September 13, 2025 at Woodhaven Memorial Gardens for a 2:00 PM Graveside Service, with Pastor Justin Keck officiating
