Charles Edward McGill

Charles Edward McGill – age 75, of Knoxville, TN, passed away unexpectedly on November 20, 2025 at UT Medical Center with his family at his side.
Charlie was born and raised in Knoxville, TN and graduated from Carter High School. He proceeded to further his education to attain his BA from Carson Newman College, Masters from Georgia Southern College, EDS and Pre-Doctorate from University of Tennessee. Charlie retired from the Army (1974-1980) and TN Army National Guard (1986-2001). He was a teacher in both Knox County and Union County for over 30 years. He also worked as a social worker in Union County. Charlie was a gifted musician and used his special talent to serve God as drummer/percussionist at both Corryton Church and Clear Springs Baptist Church. Charlie served his God, his country, his community, and his family with the utmost excellence and love. He lived well and finished well (Phil 4:7) and he has left his family with a goodly heritage (Psalm 16:6 KJV) setting an example of how life should be lived.
Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, John and Ida McGill; wife, Cindy McGill; brother, Sam McGill; and fathers-in-law, T.W. Shoffner and Reecie Stagnolia.
He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Carole Ann McGill; daughters, Sarah Thomas (Scott), Carrie Beeler (Chris); grandchildren, Will, Grey, Addy, and Milly Thomas and Chloe, Cade, and Caroline Beeler; brothers, Bob McGill (Ruth Ann), Dave McGill (Terry); and several beloved nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM on Monday, November 24, 2025 at Clear Springs Baptist Church, 7350 Tazewell Pike, Corryton, TN 37721. A Funeral Service will follow at 3:00 PM, with Pastor Justin Pratt officiating. Family and friends will meet at 2:45 PM on Tuesday at Greenwood Cemetery at 3500 Tazewell Pike, Knoxville, TN 37918 for a 3:00 PM Graveside Service.
Pallbearers: Scott Thomas, Will Thomas, Grey Thomas, Chris Beeler, Cade Beeler (honorary), Mitchell McGill and Lucas Jones.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Charlie to Clear Springs Baptist Church Building Fund, 7350 Tazewell Pike, Corryton, TN 37721.
