Sophia Elizabeth Cancelmo passed into eternal life on March 11, 2024, in Ventura California at the age of 27.
Sophia, the beloved daughter of Susan and Andrew Cancelmo was born in Jupiter, Florida, on June 3, 1996. She graduated from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 2019 majoring in Communications and Political Science. She was employed by The University of California, Santa Barbara, Environmental Restoration Project as the Plant Restoration Manager. She oversaw the growing and restoration of a large river restoration project.
Her concern and caring for the environment were surpassed only by her love of surfing on her Wayne Rich long board in the ocean. She was known for her unique dainty surfing style! She loved watching the beautiful California Sunsets!
Sophia was naturally beautiful, totally fearless, vegan, committed to the protection of our "Blue Planet" and loved traveling. She made friends everywhere she was, spreading sunshine and light with her beautiful personality and smile. She was an avid reader and loved her collection of books. She was a talented artist and loved crocheting. She played crosswords and connections with her mom daily.
She loved her visits with her family and friends to Casa Tortuga, her home in Treasure Cay. She had a love of fishing and boating with her dad. She was always in the water free diving or snorkeling. She enjoyed looking for shells, sea glass and treasures while walking the beaches with her mom.
She will be sorely missed by her animals Izzy, Sunny, Ziggy and Kitty.
Sophia was deeply loved and treasured by her family and many friends. She was predeceased by her grandparents, Dolores and Edmund Cancelmo, Ann Gwendolyn and William Doll, her Aunt Cathy Doll, Uncle John and cousin Meaghan Cancelmo.
She is survived by her Aunts and Uncles, Sally, Mary, Kinser, Mary Claire and Ned Cancelmo and Lucia and Phil Izzo, Patricia and John Powers, Diane Whitaker, Julie and Pat Casey, Jennifer Doll, Kristi Doll, and Ann Doll; Cousins, Heather, Jennifer Ashley, Paul, Courtney, Brianna, Haylee, Jake, Ashton, Peter, Cesilia, Amy, Steven and Alyssa ;as well as a host of second cousins including Caroline, Charlie, and Mundo.

It's never a bad idea to trust your intuition. Sophia gave me so much relationship advice when we lived together in Isla Vista. I was struggling with being long distance from my boyfriend during COVID, and Sophia would tell me about her previous relationship & how it's important to listen to your gut even when everyone is pushing you to follow a specific path. She was such a grounding energy in our home and I am grateful that I was blessed to have our lives cross paths, even if only for a short time. I will miss her dearly.
