Sophie B. Schilder, a beacon of warmth and generosity, passed away peacefully on December 5, 2024, at the age of 93. Born on June 25, 1931, in the heart of Wisconsin, Sophie's life was a testament to the power of love, family, and service.
As a devoted mother, Sophie's legacy is carried on through her sons, Gary, Jeff and his wife Mary, and Scott and his wife Tracy. Her wisdom and laughter will forever echo in the hearts of her adoring granddaughters, Nicole and Haley. Sophie's familial tapestry was rich and extensive, including her brothers Alvin and Ervin, with his wife Ruth, Kenneth (Agnes) Wiedemeier. Her sisters Irene Halquist, Margaret Lardinois, and Janine Hammet, along with her sister-in-law Karen Wiedemeier, shared in the joys and sorrows of Sophie's journey and many other friends and family.
Sophie was preceded in death by her loving husband Alvin Schilder, brothers, Robert and his wife Wanda, Peter and his wife Ellan, Raymond Wiedemeier, and her sister Mabel Donovan. She was also preceded in death by her brother-in-law Dick Lardinois, Trevor Hammet, and her mother Helen and her stepfather Henry Wiedemeier. Each of them held a special place in her heart, and their memories will continue to be cherished.
Sophie's love of nature was profound and ever-present. She found joy in the simplicity of feeding the birds and watching them play amongst the trees. Her family fondly remembers the squirrel named Pete, who became a regular visitor, eagerly awaiting Sophie's treats. This connection to all living things was a cornerstone of her existence.
A fervent sports fan, Sophie's enthusiasm for her favorite teams, the Cubs and the Packers, was infectious. Her spirit and zest for the games were as vibrant as the colors of her garden. Sophie's passion for sports was matched by her commitment to her community. She dedicated countless hours as a volunteer for the elderly, sharing her boundless energy and compassion with those in need.
Vacationing up north in Crivitz was another of Sophie's greatest pleasures. There, amidst the serene backdrop of nature, she found a haven for relaxation and reflection. It was a place where memories were made, laughter was shared, and the beauty of the natural world could be fully appreciated.
Sophie's love for her grandchildren knew no bounds. She cherished every moment spent with them, imparting wisdom and sharing in their youthful exuberance. Her influence as a role model will continue to guide them throughout their lives.
The void left by Sophie's passing is immeasurable, yet her spirit will continue to inspire all who knew her. She was the embodiment of thoughtfulness, always considering others before herself. Her absence will be deeply felt, but the impact of her love, strength, and kindness will endure.
