It is with heavy hearts that we say goodbye to our son, brother, uncle, cousin, grandson and friend, Spencer Ewing Walker.
Spencer, 34, passed away unexpectedly on May 7. He was a native of Tallahassee, born to Claude and the late Sharon Ewing Walker. He was younger brother to Seth Walker and became stepbrother to Taylor Anne Short and stepson to Lauren Walker. Spencer was a proud Boy Scout, he was a member of Troop 109, earning the rank of Eagle Scout. He graduated from Leon High School, where he played on the Lions football team serving as the team long snapper and punter. He later attended the University of Central Florida where he was a member of Delta Tau Delta Fraternity. He graduated with a Bachelor's Degree and subsequently obtained his Juris Doctorate from the Cumberland School of Law in Birmingham, Alabama. He was a licensed attorney in Alabama where he practiced in several areas including public defense, contracts, and workmen's compensation.
While Spencer was a force in the courtroom, his true passion was being outdoors. Growing up he learned to hunt and fish with his dad and brother. He spent many weekends and summers on Dog Island where he would catch mullet off the dock, fish in the surf, or go out for hours in the Jon boat (once or twice forgetting to put gas in it). He loved being out on the water and never missed a grouper or snapper trip. Later in life he took his talents to Panacea, chasing redfish across the bay. In the winters he would terrorize ducks at Piney Island, Lake Jackson, or any spot that had water and fowl.
Spencer was known for his big heart, great hugs and quick wit. He had a big laugh that was contagious. He made friends quickly wherever he went and was usually accompanied by his jumbo sized canine best friend, Drogo the English Mastiff. He loved his family and especially enjoyed being the "FUNCLE" whenever he was with his nieces and nephew.
He was pre-deceased by his mother, Sharon Walker, uncles Keith Ewing and Edward Ewing IV, and grandfathers John Walker and Edward Ewing, Jr. He leaves behind to mourn his passing his father Claude Walker and stepmother Lauren; brother Seth Walker and his wife Emily and their daughter Ridley; stepsister Taylor Anne Short and her husband Cody and their children Mary Elizabeth and Cameron; paternal grandmother Maye Walker, and too many loving aunts, uncles and cousins to mention. He also leaves behind his beloved dog, Drogo, who was devoted to Spencer.
It has brought comfort to his family to hear from his many friends of his positive influence in their lives. He will be missed greatly by all who knew him. Please feel free to leave a post or picture on his Facebook page.
A celebration of Spencer's life is planned for 4-6 pm Saturday, May 31 at the Kearney Osceola Grille, 6th Floor, 225 Champions Way, Building B, Tallahassee. Remembrances can be made to the Organization for Artificial Reefs (OAR), directed toward creation of the Spencer Ewing Walker Memorial Reef (oarreefs.org – Spencer Ewing Walker Memorial Reef).
Kelly Barber of Bevis Funeral Home (859-385-2193 or www.bevisfh.com) is assisting the Walker family with their arrangements.
