Funeral Services for Spurgeon Stephen "Steve" Taylor, 71, of Pennington will be held Thursday, October 9, 2025, at 11:00 am. at Ebenezer Baptist Church with Rev. Craig Gavin officiating. Burial will follow at the Ebenezer Cemetery. Visitation will be held thirty minutes prior to the service.

Steve Taylor passed away on Monday, October 6, 2025, at Choctaw General Hospital in Butler. Born on March 29, 1954, in York to Spurgeon Sellion Taylor Jr. and Hazel Earline Davis Taylor, he dedicated his career to working as a technician at Georgia Pacific until his retirement. Steve was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church. A passionate outdoorsman, he loved deer hunting and was well-known for his playful pranks and captivating stories. He treasured spending time with friends and family. As a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, his absence will be profoundly felt.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Linda Barger Taylor of Pennington; daughter, Amy Dale Taylor of Monroeville; son, Erik Spurgeon Taylor of Pennington; son, Brian Stephen Taylor of Pennington; sisters, Patricia Taylor Dickey of Chatom, Bonnie Taylor of Madison; Nancy Taylor of Tuscaloosa; grandchildren, Taylor Allen (Callie) of Waynesboro; Karlie Archibald of Mobile; great-grandchildren, Bexley Allen of Waynesboro; Karter Allen Starr of Mobile; soon to arrive, Beau Allen of Waynesboro; niece, Laurel Beard of Athens; and many other family members and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents Spurgeon Sellion Taylor Jr. and Hazel Earline Davis Taylor.

Pallbearers include Jacob Barger, Billy Carlisle, Chris Carlisle, Wade Faile, Jay James, Jerrad Jones, Kelly McKenzie, and Galen Stokes.

Honorary Pallbearers include Taylor Allen, Sonny Burnette, Mike Carlisle, Tommy Danley, Stanley Norwood, Peter Smith, and Phillip Smith.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Karen Manning and the staff of the Clinic P.C. and the staff of the Choctaw County EMS.
