Stanley “Stan” Braun, 93, of St. Charles died Friday morning at home with his loving family by his side. Stan was born May 21, 1930 in Utica to Peter and Catherine (Fix) Braun. He graduated from St. Charles High School in 1948, where he participated in football, basketball, and baseball. He was also Captain of the basketball team. Stan served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He and Carol Wiskow were married on September 8, 1951 in El Paso, Texas. After serving in the Army, they returned to St. Charles to raise their family. He was employed by the St. Charles Condensing Company for 24 years. For the next 29 years he was a Plant Manager for Ralston-Purina. He took great pride in achieving the Safety Awards for his Purina plant year after year.

Stan deeply loved his family. He valued and supported all of his children sharing his talents and wisdom.  He always made time to lend a helping hand and as an avid “do-it-yourselfer” taught his daughters many life skills.  He made sure they knew “righty is tighty” and “lefty is loosy”.

Stan and his son Bruce were inseparable partners, both loved being outdoors – mowing, hunting, snowmobiling, snow skiing, plowing snow, felling trees and they renovated a 1962 Jeep pickup together. Stan and Carol bought their first boat in 1969 to enjoy many days on the Mississippi and vacations to Women Lake with their family and friends, which started a 67-year family tradition. Stan was in the first Rochester Water Ski Show performing stunts as a clown. He was the second person to barefoot ski in southern Minnesota and continued to barefoot ski until the age of 69. Many times throughout the years, Stan and his son, Bruce, would perform barefoot ski runs as a duo. He enjoyed sharing his expertise of skiing and spent hours pulling skiers. He was meticulous in his woodshop, building many sets of cabinets and other specialty projects. Stan always made sure he was active. If you didn’t know where Stan was, all you had to do was listen and you would hear the John Deere. Above all, he was proud of his children, their families and his 71-year marriage to Carol. 

Survived by his wife, Carol, daughters, Jeri Schoonover of Lino Lakes; Becky (Jeffrey) Bailey of Chuckey, TN; Jill (Daniel) Christie of St. Charles; and Roxanne Bartsh (Dave Zimmerman) of Zumbrota, a daughter-in-law, Margaret Braun of St. Charles, grandchildren, Tricia Braun (John Wichman); Teresa “Jo” (Lance) Small; Trista Braun; Natalie Schoonover; Jaimelie (Ryan) Hinrichsen; Ryan (Brittany) Bailey; Brianna (Robert) Zacary; Dierdra Bailey; Dana (Mike) Davis; Alexander Shea; Adam Shea; and Bailey Christie, and 21 great-grandchildren. 

He was preceded in death by his loving son Bruce, siblings, Dorothy Waechter, Donald Braun and Marion Bailey. 

Stan’s one wish was to have a bench next to his son’s overlooking the baseball field. Donations to the family will be shared amongst Stan’s favorite educational Scholarship funds, including the Bruce Braun Memorial Scholarship Fund.

In accordance to Stan’s plan, his body has been donated to Mayo Clinic Bequest program.  Services to remember Stan will be 11 a.m. Saturday, January 20, 2024 at Hoff Funeral Service in St. Charles, led by funeral celebrant, Dianne Rislow.  A visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the time of services at the funeral home.  A reception will follow. www.hofffuneral.com .
