Stanley A. Stahmann, age 67, passed away on Memorial Day, May 29, 2023, at the UW Health-University Hospital after his battle with ALS. Stan was born to the late Arthur and Alvina (Smith) Stahmann on June 9, 1955. He graduated from Laconia High School in 1973 and was active in FFA and 4-H. Stan married Karen Nimmer on October 18, 1975, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Nekimi; together they had three children.
Stan was a farmer who spent his entire life on his family homestead. In 2022, the farm was honored to be named as a Wisconsin Century Farm. He worked for the American Breeder Service for over 30 years. Partnering with Brian Voss, they formed B-S Chopping, LLP in 2001 until he retired from that business in 2015.
Stan was an active member of the Van Dyne Volunteer Fire Department and a first responder for 29 years. He served on the Board of Directors for Nekimi Mutual Insurance Company for 23 years and Badger Farm Credit Services for 6 years.
He enjoyed bowling, trap shooting, and "pool league". He loved spending time in his shed playing cards and hosting neighborhood and family gatherings. He became an avid collector of Blatz memorabilia which, quite unintentionally, took over the shop and, in turn, became known as the Van Dyne Blatz Museum.
He was always willing to lend a helping hand and give advice to anyone who asked.
Stan is survived by his wife, Karen; children, Jennifer (Heath) Ruetten, Todd (Melissa) Stahmann, and Megan (Justin) Retzleff; grandchildren, Hadley and Tenna Ruetten and Konner Retzleff; sister, Sandra (David) Wightman and brother, Stephen Stahmann. Stan is further survived by his sisters-in-law, Shirley (Michael) Kempinger and Grace (Daniel) Brown, as well as nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Stan was preceded in death by his father- and mother-in-law, Duane and Marian Nimmer.
An open house-style celebration of life will take place at the Stahmann family farm (AKA Van Dyne Blatz Museum) on Sunday, June 4, 2023, from noon until 5PM. Please contact the family for any further details.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to one of the following organizations: ALS Association of Wisconsin, Van Dyne Volunteer Fire Department, Eldorado First Responders, or the Larsen-Winchester Lions Club Medical Equipment Loan Locker.
As Dad would say, "It's just another day."
