Stanley Edwards Obituary

Mr. Stanley Eugene Edwards, age 81, a resident of 107 Camelia Way, Washington, died Monday, January 12, 2026 at the ECU Health Medical Center Palliative Care Unit.

Due to the high likelihood of inclement weather this weekend, the funeral arrangements have been changed and are now as follows: Family Visitation (12:30 - 1:45 PM) and Funeral Services (2 PM) will be held Saturday, January 31, 2026 at the First Baptist Church in Washington, conducted by Pastor Matt Carr. Burial will follow at Pamlico Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Washington.

Mr. Edwards was born in Beaufort County on December 31, 1944, son of the late Edward Ray Edwards and Eleanor Hudson Edwards. Mr. Edwards graduated from Washington High School and attended East Carolina University.

Mr. Edwards married Julie Anne Clark on February 25, 1968. They were lovingly married for over 57 years. Stan is survived by his wife Julie, his two sons, Marc Edwards and Lance Edwards, his daughter-in-law Sarah Edwards, and grandson Henry Edwards.

Stan was a dedicated and exceptional husband, father, granddad, friend, church member, community member and follower of Jesus. He worked at the Weyerhaeuser Paper Company for 37 years. Stan attended First Baptist Church of Washington his entire life. His leadership as a church member over the years included coaching the First Baptist Church basketball team, leading the youth group, teaching Sunday School, serving as a deacon, chairing several committees, and greeting members and visitors alike with kindness.

Stan had a profound impact on countless youth for decades. In addition to his church activities, he coached soccer and baseball for many years, and served as an umpire across eastern NC for 25 years. Stan was a proud veteran and was serving as the Post Commander for American Legion Post 15 at the time of his passing. Stan will be remembered by all who knew him as a kind, thoughtful, loving, humble, and honorable man.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Washington (113 N. Harvey Street, Washington, N.C. 27889) or American Legion Post 15 (P.O. Box 1921, Washington, NC 27889)

Joseph B. Paul, Jr. Funeral Service in Washington is honored to serve the Edwards family.
