Stanley Edgar Nelson Jr., a resident of Shirley, formerly of Acton, passed away peacefully at his home on July 6, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family. He was 62 years old. Stan lived a full and vibrant life marked by hard work, humor, and an unwavering love for his family.
Stan was born in Concord, son of the late Stanley Nelson Sr. and Cynthia Nelson. He was raised in Acton and was a graduate of Minuteman Technical High School with the class of 1981. He began his career at Nuclear Metals before finding his true calling as head custodian at Acton-Boxborough Regional High School, where he became a beloved and familiar face to everyone.
Known as the funny guy who was always up for anything, Stan brought joy and laughter wherever he went. He had a zest for life that was contagious, whether he was snowmobiling, riding motorcycles, meticulously caring for his yard, or organizing his garage. In fact, anytime he was outside or tinkering in his garage, people would often stop by to chat because Stan was the kind of person everyone wanted to be around. He loved his friends deeply and was always ready to lend a hand to anyone, even to a complete stranger.
Stan had boundless energy and didn't wait for the weekend to enjoy life. But more than anything, he loved spending time with his family. His presence was larger than life, and his memory will live on in the stories, laughter, and love of those who were lucky enough to know him.
Stan is survived by his devoted wife, Heidi (McHugh) Nelson, and his three children: Daniel Nelson, Courtney (Nelson) Bedford and her husband Matty, and Nicole Nelson. He was a proud and playful "Papa" to his cherished grandchildren, Aliyah and Cameron. He also leaves two sisters, Gail Meyers (husband Bruce) and Lisa Friedrichs (husband Eric).
Relatives and friends are invited to visiting hours on Tuesday, July 22nd from 4:00-7:00PM in the Acton Funeral Home, 470 Massachusetts Avenue (Rte. 111) Acton.
Those who wish may make memorial contributions in memory of Stan to The American Cancer Society, PO Box 6704, Hagerstown MD 21741 or to the Alzheimer's Association, PO Box 96011, Washington DC 20090-6011.
