Stanley M. Podolec Sr., 93, of Amsterdam, passed away on Thursday February 6,2025 at the Mountain Valley Hospice Home in Gloversville, NY following a brief illness.
Born in Norwich, VT on January 15, 1932 a son of the late William and Anna Podolec. He was a resident of Amsterdam and worked as a Union Carpenter for Local #370 of Albany for most of his life. He served in the US Army from 1961 to 1963.
Stanley was a member of the American Legion Post #701 in Amsterdam. He was a Scout Leader of Troop #40 for St. Mary's Institute in Amsterdam and was also a member of the N.R.A.
He enjoyed the outdoors hunting and fishing and spending time with his sons and grandchildren.
He married Evelyn D. Myers Podolec. They were married 68 years before her passing in 2021. Stanley is survived by his children, Gerald "Jerry" Podolec of Ft. Hunter, NY, Kenneth Podolec of Amsterdam, NY, and Stanley "Steve" (Dody) Podolec Jr. of the Town of Providence, NY. Two brothers, Larry Podolec of Johnstown, NY and Frank Podolec of Bainbridge, NY. Four grandchildren, Katelyn Haller, Steven, Travis and Gary Podolec; five great-grandchildren also survive. He was predeceased by a brother, James Edward "Whitey" Podolec.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Rose & Hughes Funeral Home, 200 Church St., Amsterdam, NY. It was Stanley's request that there be no formal services. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mountain Valley Hospice, 108 Steele Ave, Gloversville, NY 12078. Please visit Stanley's tribute at www.roseandhughesfh.com.
