Stanley William Smola, 53 of Marengo, Iowa, passed away on Monday, September 1, 2025, at his sister's home in Marion, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, September 4, 2025, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Central City, Iowa. Inurnment will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, September 5, 2025, at Mount Clark Cemetery in Central City.
Stan was born on March 8, 1972, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Steven William and Londa Marie (Hutchins) Smola. He was a graduate of North Linn High School and went on to attend Kirkwood Community College. Stan was active in 4-H during his youth and played football in junior high and high school. A devoted Iowa State Cyclone fan, he rarely missed the chance to cheer them on. He had a deep love for the outdoors and enjoyed mushroom hunting, riding dirt bikes, and spending time in nature. Stan also had a passion for cars and could often be found in his garage or workshop. He was good with his hands. Stan lived a simple life where friends and family were the center.
Stan is survived and lovingly remembered by his father, Steven (Louise) Smola; sister, Jacqueline Smola; nieces, Katie Ortgies, and Liz Ortgies; step-siblings; Tammy Ryan and Tracy Ryan; step-nephew, Travis Ryan.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Londa Smola.
