Dennis Lee Shaffer, 71, of Alburnett, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, October 18, 2025, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion, Iowa. A Memorial service will begin at 1 p.m. on Thursday, October 23, 2025, at the funeral home, with Pastor Steve Benton officiating.
Dennis was born on October 20, 1953, in Manchester, Iowa, the son of Richard Lee and Cathleen Lucille (Powel) Shaffer. He was a 1971 graduate of North Linn High School and went on to serve honorably in the United States Army. On August 18, 1984, Dennis was united in marriage to Patricia “Patty” Hunter in Central City, Iowa. He spent his life farming and selling farm real estate. Dennis attended New Covenant Bible Church and knew Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. He was a member of the Alburnett Lions Club. Dennis’ family was a priority in his life, and he loved soaking up all the little and big moments he could. He spent his spare time mowing, fishing, listening to music, eating chocolate cake, and working with his cattle. Dennis will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Dennis is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife of 41 years, Patty; three daughters, Jessica (Mike) Cantonwine of Marion, Angie (Brad) Meierotto of West Point, Iowa, and Emily Shaffer of Marion; five grandchildren, Dalton, Addy, Breckon, Brandt, and Olivia; two brothers, Doug (Janelle) Shaffer of Cedar Rapids, and David (DeAnna) Shaffer of Coggon, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorials in Dennis’s memory may be directed to the Alburnett Fire Department, Center Point Ambulance Service, or the Alburnett Lions Club Benevolence fund.
