Stanley Span Obituary

Age 86 passed away Sunday September 15, 2024, at his residence in the Carillon Community of Plainfield where he resided for the past 27 years, formerly of Chicago. Stanley was a Chicago Fireman (truck 26), retiring in 1999 after 38 years of service. He spent his last years with the Chicago Commissioners office as Chief Span and was the Special Events Coordinator for the Chicago Fire Department, he was also an avid tennis player. He is survived by his loving wife Barbara Span; children Cheryl (Ralph) Jones, Michael (Janet) Span, and Susan (Thomas) D'Alessandro; grandchildren Ashley (Gerald) Molidor, Garin (Carolyn) Jones, Alex (Elizabeth) Jones, Nicholas Span, Amanda Span, Michael Span, Matthew D'Alessandro, Isabelle D'Alessandro, and Saverio D'Alessandro; great grandchildren Ava, Reagan, Charlie, Molly, Jesse, Leighton, and Teddy. Preceded in death by his parents Stanley and Augusta Span, also one brother and three sisters.
Friends and family are invited to a memorial mass on Tuesday September 24, 10:00am at St. Andrew the Apostle church. Followed by a luncheon.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Widow's and Orphans fund of the Chicago Fire Department in Stanley's honor will be greatly appreciated; https://widowsandchildren.org/

Your heart soon will be filled with wonderful memories of joyful times together as you celebrate a life well lived. Our memories of Stan begin with the Chicago Fire Department- then on to the Backdraft group and the yearly parties with Billy Baldwin little did we know ,Barb, that Stan (and Juan) would no longer be with us. My gratitude to Billy Baldwin for getting you to the Naperville restaurant. God Bless you and your family in your huge loss of a wonderful man

I first met Stan on the tennis courts. Besides being a wonderful player he was always kind and considerate. Also very funny. Always a joy to play tennis with.
