MASHPEE -Starr F. Schlobohm, Jr. passed away at home on December 4, 2025.
Starr was born on January 30, 1956 in
Boston, MA. He grew up in
Scarsdale, NY and graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University in 1979, where he majored in French. Starr thought French was a beautiful language and spoke it fluently his whole life. He also loved impressionist paintings.
Starr was a natural athlete who excelled at many sports, but he was born to ski. Starr started skiing as a toddler. His favorite nickname was Starrski. As a young adult, he settled in the
North Conway, NH area where he tended bar at Horsefeathers and skied all winter. Starr was a fearless skier who loved unpacked powder, moguls on black diamond trails, cutting a fresh path through the woods, skiing closed trails and jumping. His favorite places to ski included Alta, Tuckerman's Ravine and Wildcat. In 1982, Starr convinced Wildcat to let him cut his own black diamond trail called StarrLine. This made him a local legend. In addition to being an elite skier, he was the only person to pass through North Conway to ever have a ski trail named after him. The StarrLine is still there today.
Later in life, Starr relocated to
Mashpee, MA where he tended bar at Bobby Byrne's and waited tables at The 99. He also invested in Kansas oil leases with his dad. In Mashpee, he enjoyed water skiing, golf, bowling and fishing. Starr did the landscaping and gardening for himself and his dear mother Ina. He excelled at woodworking, and made many beautiful handmade wooden items including a dory. He was often seen walking his beloved black lab Bonnie in the neighborhood.
Starr considered himself retro. He was reluctant to adopt new technology. He loved '70's music, especially Elton John, The Doors, Boston and The Beach Boys. He loved cars, especially vintage muscle cars. He was very knowledgeable about the history of cars and how to work on them.
Starr was a quiet person who enjoyed crosswords and Sudoku puzzles, or a game of backgammon with a buddy. He was thoughtful and generous, quick to help wherever he saw a need. He loved to cook and bake, and often dropped off homemade goodies to people as gifts, especially walnut squares. He was good at sewing, and mended clothes for his mom and sister. Starr had a good sense of humor, enjoying offbeat cartoons such as The Far Side and Dilbert.
Starr was a sensitive, loving person who loved Peanuts characters, especially Snoopy. He loved little kids, but sadly never had any of his own. He showed his love for the people he cared about through his generosity, thoughtfulness and quiet leadership. In recent years, he deeply mourned the loss of his mom and his dog. The world will miss this special, loving soul.
My little brother will be lovingly missed and remembered by his sister Pamela K. Schlobohm of
Mashpee, MA. Starr was predeceased by his brother Jeffrey R. Schlobohm; his parents Dr. Starr F. Schlobohm and Ina G. Schlobohm; and his beloved dog Bonnie. He will also be missed by six cousins and his dear friends.
A memorial visitation will be held at the Chapman Funeral Home, 74 Algonquin Ave. (RTE. 151), Mashpee on Saturday, January 10, 2026 from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM. A memorial dinner will be held afterwards at Wimpy's, 752 Main St., Osterville, MA from 6:30 PM to 9:00 PM.
Starr's ashes will be scattered in a private service on the beach.
