Obituary For Stella C Heedles

Stella C. Heedles, born May 12, 1925, lived to be 100. Born in Jermyn, Pennsylvania - a coal miners daughter as she liked to be called. She was a child of the depression and had a very difficult young life having lost her parents at a very young age. Stella moved to Brooklyn to help her sister Anna who was expecting, and this led her to meet the love of her life Edward J. Heedles.

Married in 1951 they lived in Brooklyn. In 1959 they moved to New Dorp, Staten Island where they raised their five children, Edward, Karen, Nancy, Robert and son Dennis who passed in 2015. Stella worked for the Board of Education and was among the first security guards hired for the public school system. Working in both Curtis and New Dorp High School. Stella was very proud of her employment.

After 60 plus years of marriage Edward passed in 2013 and she continued to enjoy life with her family and friends. Our Cathoic faith was very important to Stella. She was a loyal parishioner of St. Charles Parish. She attended the 10:45 Mass on Sundays with her beloved friend Jeannette and daughter Karen. She looked forward to her lunch at Casa Verde afterwards.

Even at the advanced at of 99, Stella was fastidious about her appearance. She loved her fashion, clothes, jewelry, shoes and hand bags. She took tremendous pride in her appearance. She enjoyed her walks in the neighborhood she loved. She loved her friends and loved her neighbors. She was especially fond of Stephanie Burke who she called another daughter.

Stella was the proud Mother of five children, a grandmother of sixteen and great grandmother of 24 with one on the way. She was blessed with loving in-laws Dorothy Heedles, Laurie Heedles, Robert J. Wright and the late Ronnie Heedles and Craig Ferrari.

Stella had a great following on facebook for those admiring her zest for life and the next party. As Stella would say Sto-Lot, which means 100 years!

Service for Stella will be Thursday, October 9, 2025 from 4-8. Mass at St. Charles on Friday, October 10, 2025 at 10:15 burial at Ocean View Cemetery.
