Stephen L. Allison

Steve Allison was born August 28, 1945 in Wray, Colorado, to Steve and Betty Allison. He passed away on February 21, 2025. He grew up on a farm near Vernon, Colorado. The family moved to Wray when he was in the 7th grade, but he still worked on the family farm and ranch. When Steve was a teenager, he spent several weeks stuck in the hospital recovering from an accident where he learned to love playing cards, especially Hearts where he beat his sisters regularly. Steve wrestled under coach Bob Smith and went on to wrestle in college. He graduated from Wray High School with the class of 1963. Steve went on to the Colorado School of Mines in Golden Colorado where he graduated as a Petroleum Engineer in 1967.
Steve accepted a job with Panhandle Eastern in Liberal, Kansas as a field engineer. After a few years he moved to company headquarters in Kansas City to join the Gas Storage Department as an Underground Reservoir Engineer. His company specialized in shipping and storage of natural gas from the gas producing areas of Texas, Kansas, Oklahoma and the gulf coast region to its markets in the Northeast and the Midwest. While in Kansas City, Steve purchased a cabin in the Lake of the Ozarks where he spent a lot of his weekends fishing, boating and playing Pitch (another card game that he had become a master at). The Allison family had many fun outings to visit Steve at his cabin where several of us learned to water ski. While in Kansas City Steve joined the Masonic Lodge and became a 32nd degree mason carrying on a tradition started by his father, served as Master of the lodge and became a Shriner. In 1989 Panhandle Eastern merged with Texas Eastern. Shortly after the merger Panhandle Eastern headquarters moved to Houston Texas and Steve moved with them. Steve remained there until his retirement in 1996.
After he retired, he came home to Wray where he worked the family farm and kept his dad, Steve Allison Sr. company. Steve loved his black angus cows, similar to his Uncle Bill, and spent a lot of his time feeding and taking care of them. He also enjoyed hosting his hunting friends when they came to Yuma County for pheasant season. He especially enjoyed spending time with his cousin John Hardwick and Mary Ellen. They went on many trips around the U.S. and Colorado mountains together. He also traveled to Alaska, China, Russia, Europe, and Australia. While in Wray he was an active member of Masonic Lodge #71 and a member of the Wray Methodist Church.
He is survived by his brother Barry Allison and wife Christine, his sister Virginia Shea and husband Ed, his sister Elaine Barnes and husband Hal, his ten nieces and nephews, and many cousins.
