Stephen H. Green, Philadelphia lawyer, died October 4, 2025 at age 83. Survived by wife Beverly (nee Bennett); daughter Kerry (Jay) Rosenthal; granddaughters Hannah Rose Green, Elizabeth (Libby) Green, and Samantha Robinson; grandson Jacob Robinson; and best buddy Mookie. Predeceased by his son Mark Richard Green (2015). Proud life president of the "legendary" 214th Class of Central High School, Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Lafayette College, and alumnus of Columbia (J.D.) and New York University (LL.M) Law Schools. Steve devoted a meaningful part of his career to pro bono representation of abused children and the pursuit of Right to Education cases on behalf of intellectually disadvantaged children, as well as many years of service as board member and President of the Friends Neighborhood Guild, a settlement house/community resource center in North Philadelphia.
Steve's pride in his children and grandchildren was limitless, his love for them boundless. He was a mentor and example for generations of young lawyers, emphasizing "CICT" - curiosity, intensity, and critical thinking. He was never too busy to come to the aid of someone in need of help, he was a connoisseur of good jokes and newspapers, and was impassioned in his anger and sadness pertaining to the Holocaust, the Vietnam War and "45". He loved Twin Lakes, first visiting in 1972, where he built a home in 1980 with the hope that it would always be a welcome destination for family and their friends - despite, or because of, the absence of TV.
He analogized life to a cross country race (one of his team sports at Central), and rarely failed to generate energy needed to complete difficult tasks. He has finally reached the finish line of his last race, with pride in having done his best to be a decent, caring, competent person. If so inclined, contributions in honor to The Grammar School or The Putney School or to any worthy charity would be appreciated.
