Stephen L. Greer, 81 of Sullivan, MO passed away Saturday, December 28, 2024 at University Hospital, Columbia, MO.
Stephen Greer, a man of intelligence, adventure, and wisdom, left an indelible mark on the world with his passionate embrace of life's journey. Born in Kansas City, MO, he found his academic footing at Rustin High School, graduating with the class of 1961.
Stephen's thirst for knowledge led him to the Missouri School of Mines in Rolla, MO. There, from 1961 to 1966, he honed his skills and emerged with a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering-a foundation that would underpin his illustrious career. He found his professional home at Westinghouse, which later transitioned to Siemens in St. Louis, MO. His tenure there was not just a job but a lifelong commitment that brought him both fulfillment and respect.
An embodiment of patriotism, Stephen honorably served the United States in the throes of the Vietnam War, a testament to his resolute spirit and dedication to his country.
Stephen met Millie Anne Maberry while serving as an Army Medic at Walter Reed. From that point on, Stephen's heart, was tethered to Millie, the love of his life, with whom he exchanged vows on a blessed spring day, April 13, 1969. Stephen's career carved pathways to distant lands, as he and his family explored the cultural riches of Europe, the robust contours of Chile, the historical tapestry of Turkey, the vivid hues of India, and the landscapes of Taiwan. Their shared wanderlust saw them traverse the globe, delighting in the discoveries each new shore offered.
The echoes of Stephen's laughter will long resound in the memories of all who knew him. His legendary humor, often delivered in clever one-liners and whimsical poems, brought light to any gathering. An ardent reader, Stephen's annual pilgrimage through the pages of "Lord of the Rings" was a sacred rite, reflecting his enduring love of fantasy and storytelling.
A man of the great outdoors, Stephen relished the serenity of nature, often embarking on overnight canoe trips that fostered treasured family moments under a canopy of stars. His life's chronicle unfolded in the pages of his journal, a ritual that accompanied him from youth to his final days.
Stephen's spiritual compass was unwaveringly pointed towards the Seventh Day Adventist Church, where he served as First Elder for over two decades. His commitment to his faith was as much a part of him as his love for daily breakfasts and paper readings at Cracker Barrel-a simple pleasure that underscored the beauty he found in life's everyday moments.
Stephen Greer was a man who soared like an eagle, an exemplar of the Scout Law in every endeavor. His legacy is one of laughter, learning, and an unquenchable zest for life-a legacy that will continue to inspire and guide those fortunate enough to have been touched by his remarkable journey.
Stephen is survived by his wife, Millie Greer of Sullivan, MO; three daughters, Stacie Hatfied, Ph.D, (Aaron) of Berrien Springs, Michigan, Rebecca Greer DVM, (Nick) of Ballwin, MO, Suzanne Phillips Ph.D, (David) of Running Springs, CA; six grandchildren, Audrey Cheever (Adam), Isaac Hatfield, Anna and Shane Phillips, Larissa and Alika Greer; two great-grandchildren, Paisley and Talia; other relatives and many friends.
