Stephen J. Hogarty, 85, of Londonderry, NH, formerly of Andover, MA, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 22, 2025, at Fairview Skilled Nursing in Hudson, NH.
Stephen was born in Princeton, NJ on December 6, 1939, to the late James and Marie (Piskuric) Hogarty. Stephen was the youngest of four siblings, he attended Princeton High School graduating in 1958 before attending the University of Notre Dame where he earned a B.A. in Business Administration in 1962.
Stephen was a devout Catholic studying briefly in seminary school, before having a change of heart and entering as a layman in the Catholic church working in social service programs in Kansas City, MO and Hopi, AZ.
In Arizona he met his wife, Carol Ann (Checchia) Hogarty of Philadelphia, PA. They were married in 1975 before starting a family and moving to Andover, MA. Carol died in 1993 of brain cancer and in 2001 Stephen married his second wife, Mary. Upon his retirement they relocated to Derry, NH in 2005 and eventually to Londonderry, NH.
Stephen made a living working in sales for over thirty years to support his family and in his leisure time loved sports and umpired local baseball leagues in MA and NH.
Stephen was a long time member of St Augustine's Church in Andover, MA serving as an eucharistic minister and CCD teacher. Additionally, he was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 1078 in Andover, MA, and served as a Grand Knight.
Stephen is survived by his wife Mary (McCafferty) Hogarty; his children Ann Marie Riediger and her husband Dean of St. Charles, IL, Joseph Hogarty of Lania, HI and Patrick Hogarty and his wife Meredith of Westford, MA; his step-children Daniel Bolduc and his wife Sharon of Derry, NH, Kathleen Moore and her husband Brian of Londonderry, NH, Timothy Bolduc and his wife Maura of Atkinson, NH and Thomas Bolduc and his wife Kelly of Londonderry, NH, and his grandson Conor Hogarty.
Stephen was predeceased by his sister Elizabeth Hendry and two brothers William and Richard Hogarty.
Stephen will be remembered by his family and friends as a friendly, humble, and generous man, who loved to make people laugh and was always ready to tell a joke or two.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday March 6, 2025 at 10:30 AM at St. Augustine's Church in Andover, MA followed by a luncheon at The Irish Cottage in Methuen, MA.
