I was one of two roommates with Steve at 1960 National Student Council Convention in Janesville, WI. Had a great week together and quickly realized that he would have a great life ahead of him. Tried to find him several times to say hello but was not successful. So sorry to learn of his passing. Joe McInnes, Lake Martin, Alabama

Steve was one of the best athletes to play at Elkin High School I was fourteen when I saw Steve hit the longest home runs I had ever seen. My brother Gene and Steve were team mates on the 1960 high school baseball team that played for the state championship. I was a few years younger, but Steve was always very kind and took time to talk with me I guess you could say he was my hero! Thanks for all you did. God Bless your family. A fellow Gideon Ken Harris

Steve was a wonderful neighbor and friend. He cared about our community and got to know many neighbors. He loved to golf and walk his dogs. He will be sorely missed.

Steve, a friend and Duke teammate. A "good" person is highest compliment that one can say about any individual. He was pleasant, loving and a good athlete. If you knew him, you had a friend for life. He will be missed but not forgotten. Diane, your grief is shared by many but memories last forever.
