Stephen DuBois "Steve" Jonas

Stephen "Steve" DuBois Jonas passed away Tuesday, May 17, 2022.
Steve was born September 27, 1947 in Sacramento, California to Doratha Ann DuBois and Joseph Foster Jonas. He was raised traveling the world as a military brat of a career Air Force Pilot. His family moved to Savannah in the fall of 1963 and Steve graduated from Savannah High School in 1965. After High School, Steve attended North Georgia College in Dahlonega, Georgia. In 1969 he graduated, obtaining a bachelors in chemistry and minoring in mathematics and physics. He met and married the love of his life, Susanne "Sue" Winn, in February 1970. Steve worked in various fields including chemistry, food services, truck driving before returning to school once more to obtain his teaching certificate from Armstrong State College. He taught middle school for the Chatham County Public School System.
In retirement he became more active in volunteering on local, state, and national platforms including the Isle of Hope Volunteer Fire Department, American Red Cross Disaster Services, and The Boy Scouts of America; where he was awarded their Silver Beaver Award. He was also a member of White Bluff Presbyterian Church. Initially a "CB" radio operator (Cargo Master), Steve then pursued his amateur radio license K4SDJ. He incorporated the skills he taught himself and became involved with Chatham Emergency Management Agency (CEMA). This led him into the medical field by becoming an Officer of the Coastal Healthcare Coalition Executive Committee of Region J.
Steve is survived by wife of 52 years, Susanne (Sue) Winn Jonas; son, Stephen Daniel Jonas (Holly); daughter Annie Huff (Riley); three beloved grandchildren, Addison (14), Hollis (10), Waylon (1.5) of Buckhead, Georgia; a brother, Rick Jonas (Cynthia); and two nephews, Chuck, and Foster Jonas.
A memorial service is being planned for Saturday, June 11, 2022 at 1:00 pm White Bluff Presbyterian Church, 10710 White Bluff Road #4, Savannah, Georgia 31406.
A graveside inurnment will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 11, 2022 at Bonaventure Cemetery.
