Stephen Kalman

Stephen Kalman Mr. Steve Kalman passed away on Monday evening, December 2, 2024, at his daughter's home in Somerset. He was eighty-four years of age. Mr. Kalman was born and raised in the City of New Brunswick. He resided there for most of his life and raised his children there in the sixth ward. He graduated from New Brunswick High School where he was a kicker and punter on the football team then continued his academic and athletic career at Muhlenberg College where he graduated with a dual degree in social work and theology. Mr. Kalman had a lengthy career as a social worker with the New Brunswick Board of Education. After retiring with forty years of service to the board of education, he became the Director of the Campus Kids daycare center in New Brunswick. He could often be seen on the small porch there next to Ascension Lutheran Church. He was also a lifelong member of Ascension Lutheran Church and was the Church Council President. A lover of athletics in general, he served as the Athletic Director and football and girls bowling coach for Saint Peter's High School in New Brunswick. He also coached football and baseball at New Brunswick High School and spent many Monday evenings watching Monday Night Football with his "Wrecking Crew" pals. He also loved his rescue dogs. He was predeceased by his wife of forty-two years, Rosemary McGarry Kalman. He was also predeceased by his brother Joseph Kalman and Julius Kalman. Mr. Kalman is survived by his daughters Cindy Kalman, Ginny Blanke and her husband Mark. He is also survived by his sister Rosalie Kalman and grandson Austin Blanke. Visiting will be held on Sunday December 15, 2024, from 2:00 PM – 4:30 PM and a funeral service will begin at 4:30 at Gleason Funeral Home 1360 Hamilton Street in Somerset. All services will conclude at the funeral home.
