Stephen was born in Flint, Michigan on April 28,1955, son of the late Robert and Colleen (Kelley) Kanous. Steve was an avid outdoorsman and accomplished fisherman who was happiest on a boat with his fishing buddies. He was blessed with a strong group of family and friends who shared his passions for nature, hunting, snowmobiling, Harley-Davidson motorcycles, and NASCAR. Steve enjoyed sharing his secrets for fishing, including catching, fileting, and cooking, with those that "needed educating." A bit of Steve will live on in all those who learned from him. The best times of his life were spent with his father, grandfather, and brothers at the family hunting cabin in the Upper Peninsula.
Stephen is survived by his siblings, Marilynne Giguere, David (Mary) Kanous, Thomas (Theresa) Kanous and Gerald (Cindy) Kanous; uncle, C.B. "Bernie" Kelley; nieces and nephews, Ashley and Daniel Giguere, Eric (Lindsay) Crawshaw, Andrew Kanous, Allison (Adam) Kanous-Reefer, Robbie (Frances) Kanous, Drew Michelson, Danielle (fiancé, Alex) Kanous, Jason (Maria) McAuliffe, David and Jason Lund; many devoted cousins, including Albert and Mary Santiago and Dennis Kelley; close friends from Evart, MI, David, Glen "Logan", Matt and Eric Johnson; life-long family friend, Karen (Tewksbury) Johnson. The family is especially grateful for Karen's support during Steve's treatment.
He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, and sister, Theresa Crawshaw; nephew, Christopher Crawshaw and dear friend, Glen Johnson.
