Stephen Dan Lewis McCown

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Stephen Dan Lewis McCown, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and mentor. Steve was born on August 18, 1956, in Texarkana, TX, to the late Dan McCown and Kathryn Rhoads McCown. He is fondly remembered by everyone who had the opportunity to meet him before his passing on October 30, 2024, in Atlanta, GA.
After a successful career in the beverage industry, Steve retired in 2023, having held the titles of VP/Director at Coca-Cola, VP/GM at Monster Energy, and, most recently, CEO of the Atlanta Retailer Association. His dedication, work ethic, and leadership spanned over 40 years, leaving an impact on all who had the privilege of working with him. Steve's passion and loyalty were deep-rooted-his children still feel uncomfortable holding a Pepsi.
Steve was a devoted husband to Peggy and a loving father to their blended family of five children and six grandchildren. They will remember "Papa Mac" for the twinkle in his eye, big bear hugs, silly faces, exciting scavenger hunts, and the secret surprises he often had tucked behind his back.
Life and career gave Steve the opportunity to live in many cities, including Dallas, New Orleans, Philadelphia, Tampa, and Atlanta. He will be remembered as a passionate supporter of the Dallas Cowboys, New Orleans Saints, Atlanta Braves, and his alma mater, the Ole Miss Rebels. He had a love for travel and cherished special moments in Kiawah Island, Palmetto Bluff, Lake Oconee, Maui, Saint Lucia, and Napa Valley. He was always ready with a camera in hand to capture memories and would spend hours creating special photo books and collections for the people he loved. His favorite part of photography was sharing it with you.
As a proud member of the NAFL Fraternity for multiple decades, Steve owned and operated Team "Big Dogs," leaving a lasting legacy of camaraderie and friendship.
Steve is survived by his beloved wife Peg; his children, Eric and Kristen McCown, Aly and Daniel Butman, Claire McCown, Brian and Bailey Pfohl, and Lauren Pfohl; and his grandchildren, Brian, Henry, and Joseph Pfohl, Kennedy Butman, and Sam and Miles McCown.
Steve's life will be celebrated at 12Stone Church (2050 Sugarloaf Cir, Duluth, GA 30097) on Friday, November 8 at 10:00 AM EST, where we will gather to honor his memory and share stories. He valued every relationship he had and would find great joy in seeing his most "near and dear" gathered in the same room.
Steve will be deeply missed but forever remembered for his unwavering love, dedication, humor, faith, radiant smile, and lasting impact. May his legacy continue through the memories we share and the love we show to one another.
