Mr. Stephen John Loew, age 76, of Windsor Heights, passed away Friday evening, February 21, 2025, at his residence after a long battle with cancer, surrounded by family. He was born November 6, 1948, and grew up the son of the late Stephen and Florence Loew. Steve was preceded in death by his wife, Sue Ann Loew (Knoblauch).
Steve grew up a farm kid in Maple River, Iowa. He was later sent off to Germany with the US Army during the Vietnam War. He was proud to be a Veteran and was proud to return home to serve Veterans as a nurse at the VA Hospital. He enjoyed the Green Bay Packers, the Milwaukee Brewers, playing cribbage and going fishing. He had a deep love for his family and was a proud supporter of everything they did.
Steve is survived by his wife, Debra Loew (Marshall), two sons, two step-sons and four daughters-in-laws: Stephen and Nicole (Dresch) Loew of Des Moines, Peter and Kathy (Howell) Loew of Unionville, Derek and Mandy (Trimbur) Sapp of Surprise, and DJ Sapp and Janet Otto of Nevada; five grandchildren: Chelsea Sapp, Stephen Loew; Teagan Loew, Kaelyn Sapp and Paige Sapp. As well as two sisters and a brother: Agatha Snyder of Des Moines, Katie Hoffman of Carroll and Larry Loew of Carroll.
Visitation will be held at Westover Funeral Home (6337 Hickman Rd., Des Moines) on Monday, March 3, 2025, from 5:00-7:45 with rosary to follow. Green Bay Packer attire is acceptable and appreciated. Funeral services will be Tuesday, March 4th at 10:30 at St. Theresa's Church (1230 Merle Hay Rd., Des Moines) with luncheon to follow at the church. Burial service will be held following luncheon at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery (34024 Mill St., Adel).
Donations can be made in Steve's name to the Tunnels to Towers Foundation, which supports housing for military veterans, first responders and their families.
