Stephen T. Mangiaracina was born September 18, 1942 to Gary and Lillian Mangiaracina
in Brooklyn, New York. An only child, but blessedly never lonely, growing up in a six-family
house surrounded by his parents, grandmother, aunt, uncles and cousins Connie and Rae.
He fell in love at first sight with MaryAnn and they married in 1966. Daughters Michele
and Kim, son in laws Thomas and Steven and grandchildren Jillian, Thomas, Anna and Steven
were blessed to come in to the family along the way.
He enlisted in the Marine Reserves, served and was honorably discharged. While working
for the Bell System, he would come home every evening after work to have dinner with his family
before attending night school at Queens College and St. John's University School of Law. He
started his own law practice and was admitted to the New York, Florida, and South Carolina Bars
along with Appellate and Federal Courts. One of his favorite memories as an attorney was being
admitted to the United States Supreme Court along with Michele and Kim.
He cheered for the NY Mets, St. John's Red Storm, South Carolina Gamecocks, and every
team or club that his grandkids were on. He was an usher at Holy Family Catholic Church and a
member of the Wednesday morning men's prayer group. He enjoyed belonging to The Shipyard
Men's Club, even serving as its president for several years. He golfed and had lunch with his good
friends weekly.
His family loved going on vacation with him and he leaves them with many memories of
"Perfect 10" vacations.
And while he was doing all these things, he took the time to encourage and care about the
people around him. His highest compliment was that someone was "good people". He will be
remembered by so many as exactly that.
