Stephen Michael Raymond, 83, of Galloway, NJ, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, February 10, 2025.
Born in Netcong, NJ, to the late Frank William and Elizabeth Sylvia Raymond, Stephen was raised in Rockaway. After marrying Patricia, the love of his life, they settled in Parsippany before raising their family in Mt. Arlington. Later, they made their home in Galloway, NJ.
Stephen was the proud owner of Raymond Bros. Painting, a contracting business he built with dedication and hard work. Before that, he was employed at Acme in Rockaway and Howmet in Dover.
A man of many passions, Stephen loved playing poker, gardening, and morning walks with his beloved dog, Blackjack and, in his younger years, enjoyed golf, playing pool and hunting. Even in retirement, he stayed active by flipping houses and tackling odd jobs such as washing houses, installing gutter guards, and painting shutters. He had an unmatched work ethic, a generous spirit, and a deep commitment to helping those in need. His kindness extended to supporting various religious organizations through donations and volunteer efforts as well as his love for his church, Philadelphia congregation of the United Church of God.
Stephen was predeceased by his beloved daughter, Deborah Schaffer, and his grandson, Matthew Raymond.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Patricia; his children, Michael Raymond (Deborah), Dawn Lewis (Leo) and his son-in-law Timothy Schaffer; his cherished grandchildren, Tyler and Jayson Raymond, Nicole Zatorski (Jason) and Steven Schaffer (Angela) and Luke and Ian Lewis; and his great-granddaughter, Mila Schaffer. He was looking forward to welcoming two more great grandchildren into the family. He also leaves behind his beloved Sister's Anita (late Jim) and Virginia (late Paul) and brother Frank (late Carolyn), many nieces and nephews; and many extended family members, all of whom he deeply admired.
Tragically, Stephen's daughter, Deborah, passed away hours before, on the same day, February 10, 2025.
A visitation for both Stephen and Deborah will be held on Friday, February 14, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 10:45 AM at Whitham-Kanapaux Funeral Home, 20 Keller Ave., Rockaway, NJ. A funeral Mass will follow at 11:15 AM at St. Cecilia Church, 70 Church St., Rockaway, NJ.
Stephen will be remembered for his unwavering devotion to his family, his generosity, and his hardworking nature. His spirit will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
