Stephen G. Rice, Sr., a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend passed away peacefully on April 10, 2025, in Worcester, MA at the age of 69. Born on January 1, 1956, in Framingham, MA, he was the beloved son of the late Robert E. Rice and Martha E. (Boyle) Rice.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Maureen (Kane) Rice; his children, Stephen G. Rice, Jr. and his wife Erin of Clinton, David P. Rice of Milford and Amanda M. Julian and her husband Robb of Connecticut. His joy was multiplied with the arrival of his precious granddaughter, Everly, whom he adored, loved and cherished for 8 years and loved being called "Papa".
He grew up in a lively household with 7 siblings, Robert Rice of Marlborough, Edward Rice and his wife Louise of Maine, Mark Rice and his wife Jo-Ellen of Northbridge, Matthew Rice and his wife Kim of Hudson, Kathleen Rice of Ashland, Mary Lemon and her husband Roger of Florida, and Teresa Rice of Grafton. He was also the proud uncle of many, many nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind many brothers and sisters-in-law. In addition to his family, he leaves behind some very good friends and neighbors.
Stephen was a proud graduate of Ashland High School and later attended Boston State University, where he furthered his education and prepared for a successful career. He spent many years working at Prime Computers, where he was respected for his diligence and work ethic. In the latter part of his career, he dedicated eight years as the custodian at Brookside Elementary School in Milford, where he was not only a staff member but a friend to all who knew him. He was an avid sports fan and especially loved the New England Patriots and Boston Bruins. He spent most of his childhood vacationing in the state of Maine which he loved and continued spending summers and winters on Long Lake with his family throughout his life.
Beyond his professional life, Steve was an active member of the Hopedale Country Club where he enjoyed the camaraderie and the greens. He was a former member of the Ashland Fish and Game Club. His interests were diverse, but nothing compared to the joy he found in the company of his family, especially his granddaughter Everly.
A Celebration of Life will take place on April 27, 2025 at the Framingham Elks, 450 Union Ave., Framingham, MA from 1-4PM. All are welcome. Funeral services are private.
