It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Stephen Henry Rouse, 63, of Warsaw, Virginia. Stephen was born in Richmond County Virginia to the late Chastine Robert Rouse and the late Shirley Elnora Sanders Rouse. He was retired from a long career at the Virginia Department of Transportation. Stephen was a member of Rappahannock Baptist Church.
Stephen spent 37 years at VDOT, beginning his career as a laborer and working his way up to supervising road projects. He took great pride in what he did for a living and it showed. He loved being outdoors, hunting and tending to his vegetable garden. Stephen did carpentry work on the side and loved doing home improvement projects for himself and others. He loved his home near the Rappahannock river but was also drawn to the mountains. A favorite vacation spot was the Great Smoky Mountains in Tennessee. He loved his boys and when he became a grandfather to Lorelei he was overjoyed. We will miss him and be comforted by his memory.
Left to cherish Stephen's memory are his sons and their wives; Nick and Amelia Rouse, and Justin and Addison Rouse; his beloved granddaughter, Lorelei; his brothers: Bobby Rouse (Adrian), David Rouse (Debbie) and Ricky Rouse; his sister, Sally Pitts (David); his nieces, Emma Rouse and Ashlee Lee (Mike); his nephew Allen Rouse (Erin) and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
Stephen was welcomed into Heaven by his parents and his baby niece Lacey.
A funeral service for Stephen will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 9, 2025, at Rappahannock Baptist Church, with the Reverend Jon Davis officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Following his service, Stephen will be laid to rest beside his parents in the Rappahannock Baptist Church Cemetery. A light reception will follow the interment.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that you make a donation in loving memory of Stephen to The Richmond County Animal Shelter, P.O. Box 1371, Warsaw, VA 22572.
