Stephen E. Rutty, 78, of Columbia Cross Roads, PA, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Wednesday, December 31, 2025. Born on May 8, 1947, in Canton, he was the son of the late Roscoe Rutty and Florence (Patterson) Shedden. Known to most as Steve, he attended Canton Area Schools through the 11th grade before leaving to proudly serve in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era.

In his earlier years, Steve worked for many years at Canton Manufacturing before later driving escort cars. Most recently, he was employed as a mechanic with Glenview Industries in Canton.

Steve was an avid outdoorsman throughout his younger years and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and trapping. He was a hardworking man who cherished his coffee and adored his grandchildren.

Steve leaves behind his children; Penny (Brian) Benedict of Troy, PA, David Rutty of Solon, NY, Adam Rutty of Columbia Cross Roads, PA, and Levi Rutty of North Carolina, several grandchildren and great grandchildren, siblings; Earl "Gene" (Doris) Rutty of Canton and Julius (Linda) Rutty of Ithaca, NY, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Steve was predeceased by his parents.

A gathering of friends will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2026, from 1 to 3 p.m. at Pepper Funeral Home and Cremation Facility, 578 Springbrook Drive in Canton. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Steve's name may be directed to the Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758516, Topeka, Kansas, 66675.
