Stephen Gary Shimkowitz, 80, of Avon, CT passed away peacefully after a long illness on November 2, 2024. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Veda Shimkowitz.
Steve was born in Newport News, Virginia to the late Harris and Elizabeth Shimkowitz. In addition to his wife, Steve is survived by his brother and sister-in-law Elliot and Susan Shimkowitz of Crystal Falls, Michigan, a sister Wendy Schwartz of Tolland, CT, nephews Louis Shimkowitz and wife Lisa of Berlin, CT and Aaron Shimkowitz of Newington, CT, and niece Jamie Crawford of Blackwood, NJ, as well as several grand nieces and nephews.
Steve was a veteran of the United States Navy. He worked in retail management and retired in 2014. He was an avid Yankees fan and enjoyed working in his garden, playing pickleball, and riding his bicycle on the Avon and Farmington trails. He especially loved spending time with family and friends. Steve was a kind and loving husband, brother, uncle, friend and neighbor who will be deeply missed.
A Graveside Service will be held at the CT State Veteran's Cemetery, 317 Bow Lane, Middletown, CT on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, at 10:00 AM.
