Stephen G Shimmel

Stephen G. Shimmel, 46, of State College, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, April 17, 2025. Born on April 21, 1978, in Philipsburg, he was the son of Linda (Kephart) and Ken Demko of Philipsburg. On October 21, 2012, in Bellefonte, he married the love of his life, Haleigh E. Halterman, who survives.
Stephen attended Philipsburg Schools. He held various jobs over the years, completing odd jobs here and there and then began working at Strawberry Fields for a few years until he was no longer able to work. He also helped at Skills with cleaning and odd jobs while he was able.
Stephen and his wife attended the Watermark Church in Bellefonte. He enjoyed listening to music and loved taking walks with Haleigh. He had an incredible talent for cooking and enjoyed it very much. Those that knew him would tell you he was a happy, generous, and friendly man. He was laid back and took things in life with stride. Above all things, he loved and truly cherished his wife and the life they had made together.
Along with Haleigh and his parents, Stephen is also survived by his brother, Tim Shimmel (Jody) of Bellefonte; his mother in-law, Renee Worrick of Lewistown; and his grandparents, Tom and Margery Worrick of Bellefonte.
Stephen was preceded in death by his grandparents, Lucy Kephart and Gilbert and Mary Shimmel.
A Celebration of Life will be held later this spring or early summer and will be announced.
