Stephen "Steve" William Skeen Sr., 75, of Gastonia passed away June 11, 2025. He was born July 18, 1949 in Fulton County, Georgia, a son of the late Pat and Bob Ford.
Steve taught American history for 42 years and coached high school football for schools around Georgia including Statesboro High School, Johnson High School, and Shiloh. He was proud to be a Georgia native. Steve moved to Gastonia, NC in 2018 to be a full time Granddaddy. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Gastonia. Steve enjoyed speaking and being in charge. He was a master judge for Kansas City BBQ.
Steve is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Mary Helen Skeen of Gastonia, NC; sons, Stephen "Steve" William Skeen, Jr. (Ronda) of Cairo, GA, and Matt Skeen (Amanda) of Gastonia; brother, Kerry Skeen (Kathleen) of Washington State; granddaughters, Caroline and Sullivan Skeen; and nephew, Casey Skeen (Erica) of Washington State.
The family will receive friends at McLean Funeral Directors of Gastonia from 4:00pm until 6:00pm on Monday, June 16, 2025 and again from 12:00pm until the service hour of 1:00pm at the Logan Funeral Home.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00pm on Wednesday June 18th, 2025 from the Logan Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Alan Tarr officiating. Interment will follow at the Cartecay United Methodist Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Tunnel to Towers Foundation or to St. Jude’s.
