Stephen E. Spear, age 72, of Nampa, Idaho, passed away Thursday, June 19, 2025, after a battle with cancer. Born August 26, 1952, in Corning, New York, he was the son of the late Edward and Kathryn Spear. He is predeceased by an infant brother, Donald. Steve was married to the love of his life and best friend, Melba Spear. Surviving is his loving family including his children, Adam Spear of Boise, Joe Carey (Martha) of Nampa, and Shain (Dane Mullen) Carey of Nampa. He also had eight grandchildren, Caitlynn, Drake, Matthew, Makayla, Courtney, Meadow, Noelle, and Corbin. Steve had two great grandchildren, Mason and Angeline. He is survived by his sister, Ellen Dugan (Patrick) and nephews, Michael and Matthew Dugan. Steve had several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. He had the privilege of acquiring many close friends and acquaintances.
Steve was raised in Painted Post, New York. He graduated from Corning-Painted Post West High School and attended Corning Community College. He worked for many years in the packaging business with Bigelow Tea and IMA North America. He relocated to Idaho to advance in the packaging business, and he became the owner/President of CSP. He retired in 2017 and stayed on part-time in a consulting role to the new owner up until his death.
Steve was an avid big game hunter and fisherman. He loved competing in bass fishing tournaments throughout Idaho and the surrounding areas for many years. He cherished fishing and spending time at the family cabin at Lake Cascade with his family. He served as President of the local chapter of the International Bass Masters. Steve and Melba spent the last four winters in Jupiter, Florida, near family, where he enjoyed deep sea and intercostal fishing. While in Florida he fished with Michael and Matthew, teaching them fishing techniques that they will treasure for years to come.
At Steve's request, there will be no services for the public. A celebration of his life will be held with his immediate family. Memorials in Steve's name can be made to Dry Creek Outfitters to establish a fishing scholarship fund for high school anglers.
