Steve was born on June 24, 1942, and graduated from Wayne High School in Good Hope. Married to Paula, who survives, he was preceded in death by his parents, R. Dale Thompson and Mary Evelyn (Frederick) Thompson; brothers Zane Craig Thompson and Kenneth James Thompson; and the mother of his children, Deanna Edwards.

He is also survived by brothers Jeffrey Thompson (Louann) and Christopher Thompson (Susan) and sisters Mary Lu Zock and Jennifer Thompson McKell, along with numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Steve served for four years in the U.S. Navy. He was an electrician by trade and worked in manufacturing and electrical maintenance for Johnson Controls, Kelly Electric, and the Fayette County Courthouse, as well as an independent electrician.
The oldest of seven children in a hardworking farm and construction family, he had a lifelong habit of looking after other people. He will be remembered by his family and his friends at the Eagles for his sense of humor. And as his sister Mary Lu said after his passing “He was like a rock for us kids.”
