Stephen Vuono Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Michael Hegarty & John Vincent Scalia Home for Funerals & Cremation Service on Feb. 11, 2026.
Stephen Vuono, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and proud veteran, passed away on February 9, 2026, at the age of 76. He was born on January 20, 1950, in Brooklyn, New York, and raised in Queens, where he learned the values of hard work, loyalty, and family that guided him throughout his life.

Stephen was one of five children born to Joseph and Madeline Vuono. At just 17 years old, he answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Army. He proudly served during the Vietnam War, an experience that shaped his strength, discipline, and deep sense of patriotism.

In the early 1970s, Stephen met the love of his life, Marie. The two were married in 1973 and soon moved to Staten Island to begin their life together and raise a family. Together they raised two sons, Justin and David.

Stephen dedicated over 25 years of service to the City of New York as a building inspector. Known as a hardworking and dependable professional, he was also a highly skilled carpenter whose craftsmanship and attention to detail were admired by all who knew him.

Outside of work, Stephen embraced life fully. He enjoyed hunting, trips to Atlantic City, and, most of all, traveling with his wife. Together, Stephen and Marie created a "bucket list" and made it their mission to see the world. Ever the planner, Stephen thoughtfully organized each adventure, creating memories that will be cherished forever. Family vacations held a special place in his heart, especially trips to Disney World, Atlantis, and cruises shared with loved ones.

Above all else, Stephen treasured time with his family. He adored his grandchildren and found his greatest joy in being surrounded by those he loved most.

Stephen Vuono will be remembered for his dedication to family, his service to his country, his strong work ethic, and his unwavering love for those closest to him. He will be remembered by all those lucky enough to have known him.

Stephen is predeceased by his sister Adele.

Stephen is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years Marie, by his loving sons Justin and David and daughter-in-law Brianna, by his cherished grandchildren Gavin, Joseph, Christian, Natalie, and Viviana, and by his caring siblings Catherine, Thomas, and Carl.

The family will receive friends on Friday, February 13, 2026 from 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM at Michael Hegarty and John Vincent Scalia Home for Funerals located at 3377 US Highway 9, Old Bridge, NJ 08857.

A service will be held on Saturday, February 14, 2026 at 11:00 AM at Holmdel Cemetery located at 900 Holmdel Rd, Holmdel, NJ 07733.
