Stephen Shane "Turk" Whitaker

Stephen Shane "Turk" Whitaker, age 55, passed away on Friday, May 16, 2025. He was born on January 27, 1970, the son of Sharlene Magee Dezarn. He was united in marriage to Tonya Hurst Whitaker.
He is survived by his wife, his two children, Zachary Wade and Madison Hope Pearl Whitaker; his mother; his sister, Ashley Dezarn Henson & husband Ronnie; his aunt Joyce Magee Brock & husband Delmas; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Wade & Mickey Hurst; two brothers-in-law, Jamie Hurst & wife Sherry, Paul Hurst & wife Heather; his sister-in-law, Angela Daugherty & husband Phillip; his cousin, Craig Smith & wife Heather; his cousin, Blaine Smith; his special nephew, Liam; his beloved pet, Coco; plus a host of other family and friends to cherish his memory.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Walter & Pearl Magee.
Shane was a dedicated and hardworking man who gave 21 years of service to the Walmart Distribution Center before retiring due to disability.
A lifetime member of the Laurel County Fire Department, Shane was always willing to lend a helping hand and serve his neighbors with courage and compassion. His commitment to public service reflected the depth of his character and the strength of his spirit.
Shane was a faithful member of Freedom United Baptist Church, where he found peace, fellowship, and purpose in his walk with Christ. His faith was a guiding light in his life and an encouragement to all who knew him.
A true Kentucky native at heart, Shane was a devoted fan of the UK Wildcats. Whether it was basketball or football season, he cheered passionately for his team, win or lose.
Shane will be remembered for his loyalty, his gentle heart, and his steady presence. He leaves behind a legacy of service, faith, and unwavering love for his community and family. He will be deeply missed.
A funeral service honoring Stephen Shane Whitaker will be held on Tuesday, May 20, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of House-Rawlings Funeral Home with Adam Hooker and Chris Stanley officiating. Interment will follow at Rough Creek Cemetery in London, Kentucky. The family will receive friends on Monday, May 19, 2025 beginning at 6:00 p.m. also at the funeral home. The family has entrusted House-Rawlings Funeral Home with the arrangements.
