Stephen Whyte, 69 of Sayreville, New Jersey passed away on Monday, April 15, 2024, at Complete Care - Clark.
Born Wednesday, June 30, 1954 on Staten Island, New York, Stephen was the son of the late John and Rosemarie Whyte.
Stephen was raised on Staten Island, and was a graduate of Tottenville High School. After graduating from high school Stephen enlisted in the United States Navy. He served his country honorably, stationed in Italy and serving aboard the USS Little Rock.
When Stephen returned home from his service he would marry his High School sweetheart, Karen Candilora. The couple would live on Staten Island and start a family of their own.
Stephen had a long career working for the City of New York on the Staten Island Ferry eventually being promoted to Chief Marine Engineer. After retiring from the Ferry, Stephen would begin working part time at the South Shore Golf Course on Staten Island, mowing the course fairways and enjoying the time on the course.
Stephen was also a long time member of the New York City Public School Athletic League Football Officials Association where he worked for nearly 40 years as a High School football official being part of many playoff and championship games as a Referee. He also served as the Chief Umpire at the South Shore Little League and umpired in various adult softball leagues on the Island. He also officiated Semi Pro Football. Eventually Stephen and Karen would settle in New Jersey to be closer to their family.
In his spare time Stephen enjoyed watching his favorite sports teams, the Rangers, Giants, and Mets. He enjoyed spending his downtime playing card games on his computer. Stephen loved being with his family more than anything else, and he will be missed by all those that love him.
Stephen is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, Karen, by his loving children, John and his wife Melissa, Stephen and his wife Lisa, and Paul, by his caring siblings, Mark, Margaret Mary, Frances Anne Dolcimascolo, John Jr., and Matthew, and by his cherished grandchildren, John Jr., Sebastian, Madelaina, and Sienna.
