Sterling Michael Bordelon, age 83, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 28, 2024, at Hospice of Acadiana in Lafayette. He was born on December 24, 1940, in Bordelonville and attended Bordelonville High School. He worked for many years at Teledyne Oil Exploration Company, Bordelonville Waterworks, and Angola State Penitentiary where he retired after 20+ years. He also worked as the butcher at the Bordelonville freezer locker. Some of his passions included running a small farm, gardening, cooking and hosting family reunions.
Sterling was very involved in church as an usher at St. Peter Catholic Church and enjoyed volunteering his time in the cemetery and the church grounds. Amongst the many roles he carried, his proudest role was Paw Paw. His impact on his grandchildren's lives is immeasurable. He was more than a Paw Paw, he was a storyteller, a teacher, a mentor, and a constant source of wisdom and love. Paw Paw Sterling had a way of making each of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren feel special whether he was teaching them to garden or sharing lifelong tales. His presence was a gift to all, his smile was infectious, his advice was priceless, and his love was unconditional. Although Sterling has left us, his legacy and love will be forever cherished.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Beatrice Dupuis Bordelon; their children, Troy Bordelon and wife Stacey of Houston, TX and Ed Bordelon of Mobile, AL; his six grandchildren: Zachary Bordelon, Tyler Bordelon and wife Jessicah, David Bordelon and wife Abbie, Grant Bordelon, Sarah Bordelon Simmons and husband Brandon, and Brennan Bordelon; his five great-grandchildren, and one step great-grandson.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Edward Collins and Pliney Johnson Bordelon; his siblings David Bordelon, Evelin Bordelon, Hewitt Bordelon, Bernice Mayeux, Phyllis Armand, Roberta Norman, Godfrey Bordelon, and Jude Bordelon.
Visitation will begin at 5:00pm until 9:00pm on Sunday, December 1, 2024, at the St. Peter’s Church Hall in Bordelonville with a rosary prayer service at 6:30pm. Visitation will resume at 8:00am until 11:00am on Monday, December 2, 2024, at St. Peter’s Church Hall in Bordelonville.
