Obituary of Steve Dodge
Stephen "Steve" M. Dodge, 60, of Salamanca, passed away at his home on Tuesday, January 14, 2025 after a lengthy illness.
Born on October 27, 1964, in Olean, he was the son of the late Elba "Brub" and Jeanne Dodge.
Steve graduated from Olean High School in 1982 and attended Alfred State College. Over the years he worked as a chef in numerous local restaurants, as the food director at the St. Elizabeth Motherhouse in Allegany, and most recently, as a pastry chef at the Seneca Allegany Casino and Resort.
Along with cooking and baking, Steve was passionate about his many hobbies. He enjoyed fishing with his children, walking in the woods with his dogs, and any time spent outdoors. He learned to play the drums later in life and took pride in playing with a band prior to becoming ill. He was an avid sports fan, and spent a significant amount of time watching and coaching his children in sports. He especially loved cheering on the Buffalo Bills, and was hopeful for an upcoming Super Bowl win. He had an interest in woodworking and spent his final days creating intricate walking sticks.
He leaves behind a daughter, Emily (Turner Ashby) Dodge of Olean, and two sons, Harrison Dodge and Hunter Dodge, of Salamanca; three sisters, Susan (Ronald) Varrichio of Sayville, Carolyn (Richard) Root of Cuba, and Nancy (Sheldon) Kennedy of East Amherst; his former spouses turned friends, Sherri Ayers of Olean and Cheryl Larson of Obi; several nieces and nephews; many cousins; good friends; and his loving dog, Max.
He will be greatly missed. A celebration of life will be held at a later date to be announced. Arrangements are under the direction of the Casey, Halwig and Hartle Funeral Home, Olean.
Memorials if desired may be made to EARS, www.empirerescue.org.
