Stevan Harris “Steve” Howell, 73, retired owner and operator of Maury Construction Company and a resident of Santa Fe, passed away Saturday, January 4, 2025 at Maury Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, January 7, 2025 at 11:00 AM at McCain’s Cumberland Presbyterian Church with Rev. Jimmy Peyton officiating. Burial will follow in McCain’s Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Monday, January 6, 2025 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home and Tuesday, January 7, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the church. Memorials may be made to McCain’s Cumberland Presbyterian Church Building Fund P.O. Box 29 Columbia, TN 38402 and online condolences may be extended at www.oakesandnichols.com.
Steve was born on December 31, 1951 in Columbia, TN to the late Murry Howell and the late Christene Harris Howell. He graduated from Columbia Central High School in 1970 and received his associate degree from Columbia State Community College. He was a master builder able to build just about anything and enjoyed attending auctions. Steve was a lifelong member of McCain’s Cumberland Presbyterian Church where he had served as an elder and treasurer.
Survivors include his wife Connie Gray Howell of Santa Fe that he married on February 12, 2022; four daughters, Teena (Kevin) Palmer of Franklin, Elizabeth (Matt) Wood of Thompson’s Station, Katie Howell and Brittany (Chris) McMillan both of Columbia; two brothers, Richard Howell of Columbia and David (Karen) Howell of Lima, Ohio; seven grandchildren, Ayden Howell, Avery Howell, Logan Wood, Tucker Wood, Graham Wood, Aubrey McMillan, and Grayson McMillan; mother in law, Charlotte Gray of Santa Fe; and several nieces, nephews and special cousins.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother James Mark Howell; and two sisters in law, Barbara Howell and Judy Howell.
Pallbearers will be Robin Howell, Calvin Howell, Kenneth Crain, Chris McMillan, Darryl Gray, Nick McElhaney, Luis Espinosa, and Jeff Howell. Honorary pallbearers will Kevin Palmer, Matt Wood, Con Vrailas, Jim McElhaney, past employees of Maury Construction Company and members of McCain’s Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
