Johnson, Steve - age 68 of Burton, passed away on September 18, 2025 after a courageous battle with cancer. In accordance with Steve's wishes, cremation has taken place and he will be laid to rest, with military honors, at 1:30 PM on Tuesday, September 30, 2025 at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan. For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made in his honor to Flint City Pits.
Steve was born on November 24, 1956 in Detroit, Michigan to the late James Wilford and Enid (Corless) Johnson. He graduated from John Glenn High School in Westland, Michigan. Steve had a remarkable gift for making friends wherever he went. To him, nobody was a stranger. He carried himself with warmth, humor, and an open heart that instantly drew people in. He dedicated over 35 years of his life into his career as a long haul trucker. Above all, he loved his five grandchildren, who were the light of his life.
Surviving are his wife, Jean; children, Christopher Johnson of Alden, MI, Shannon Beard of Holly, MI, Mark Hughes of Redford, MI, Amy Morgan Wells of Auburn Hills, MI, Rachel Frost of Genesee Township, MI; grandchildren, Natalie, Reese, Addison, Brady and Emery; siblings, Carol Hogle, Gary (Karen) Johnson, John (Karen) Johnson, Debra (Rick) Matthews, Mark (Jennifer) Johnson, Mark Buda. Also surviving are nieces, nephews, many friends and Steve's furry faithful companion, Peter Robert Johnson a/k/a Petey. Steve was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Phillip; brother-in-law Frank Hogle.
