Steve Kershner Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Cantelmi Long Funeral Home - Bethlehem on Nov. 13, 2024.
William Steven "Steve" Kershner, a celebrated chef and beloved husband, passed away on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, leaving a lasting legacy in the culinary world and beyond. Known for his passion, skill, and dedication to the art of cooking, Steve owned and operated several notable restaurants, most recently Twisted Olive in partnership with his cherished wife, Sherri Kershner, in Bethlehem, PA.
Steve's passion for cooking began at a young age, working alongside his father at Hotel Bethlehem. Together, they shared a passion for the culinary arts that shaped Steve's future in the kitchen. Throughout his impressive career, Steve developed an exceptional reputation in the restaurant industry, having previously owned and led acclaimed establishments including The Belmont Inn, Cascade Lodge, Spring Valley Inn, Apollo Grill and Valenca. His influence and artistry in the kitchen were shaped by extensive training, including a mentorship under the legendary Julia Child.
Steve's great sense of humor was a hallmark of his personality, bringing joy and laughter to those around him. In the kitchen, no matter how intense the moment, his team could always be heard responding with a firm, "Yes, Chef," a testament to the respect and admiration he inspired, as well as the fun he brought to his work.
In recognition of his culinary talents, Steve was voted Lehigh Valley's Favorite Chef by readers of Lehigh Valley Style magazine in 2009, 2011, and 2014, a testament to his widespread influence and love from the community.
Outside of his professional life, Steve enjoyed the simple pleasures of fishing and hunting, activities that connected him to nature and provided moments of peace. Above all, his wife, Sherri, was the love of his life, and their partnership was the foundation of his happiness.
Steve is survived by his beloved wife, Sherri Kershner of Hellertown, and his brother, Ken Kershner, and his wife, Joanne. Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Dorothy (Barlip) Kershner and his dear sister, Deborah Majerich. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews, each touched by his kindness, humor, and love. He had a deep affection for his two cats, Baxter and Marley, who brought him endless joy and companionship.
A Service to celebrate Steve's life will be held at 11 A.M. on Monday, November 18, 2024, at Central Moravian Church, 73 W Church St, Bethlehem, PA 18018. Calling hours will be held on Sunday evening from 4 P.M. to 6 P.M. at the Cantelmi Long Funeral Home, 500 Linden Street Bethlehem, PA 18018 and also on Monday morning from 10 A.M. to 11 A.M. at Central Moravian Church prior to the service.
