William Spinney Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Cantelmi Long Funeral Home - Bethlehem on Feb. 20, 2026.
William Allingham Spinney, known affectionately as Bill to his family and friends, passed away peacefully at his residence in Bethlehem, PA, on February 18, 2026, surrounded by his loving wife and daughters.

Bill's journey began on July 19, 1949, in Hartford, CT, as the beloved son of the late Henry F. Spinney and Dorothy (Allingham) Spinney. Bill graduated from The Taft School in Connecticut, and Bucknell University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering. For 40 years, Bill dedicated himself to a successful career as a Professional Engineer at PPL.

Beyond his professional achievements, Bill was a devoted husband to his wife of 54 years, Deborah D. (Devenney) Spinney. Together, they raised two daughters, Laura Nelson, with her husband Kevin, of Macungie, PA, and Karen McAnanama, with her husband Glenn, of Ridgewood, NJ., grandchildren, Caroline Nelson, Matthew Nelson, Reid McAnanama, and Finn McAnanama, who will miss their grandfather's guidance and warmth. He was also a loving brother to Deborah Bateman of North Syracuse, NY. In addition to his parents, Bill was predeceased by his brother, Henry F. Spinney, Jr., and his granddaughter, Avery McAnanama.

Bill was a member of East Hills Moravian Church, where he served as a Sacristan and coordinated the fundraising and construction of the Family Center. His interests were as diverse as his talents, ranging from sailing on the Chesapeake Bay to playing both the banjo and guitar. Bill considered himself a "computer geek" and generously shared his computer skills with family and friends.

Bill's enthusiasm for life was evident in his volunteer work, where he coached youth soccer and volleyball, sharing his love for sports and teamwork with the younger generation. His adventurous spirit led him to travel, exploring new cultures and creating memories that he cherished deeply.

Services: A Celebration of Life will be held at East Hills Moravian Church in Bethlehem on Sunday, March 22nd. Family visitation will begin at 2:00pm with the service to follow at 2:30. Bill's services have been entrusted to Cantelmi Long Funeral Home, Bethlehem. A memory tribute may be placed at www.cantelmifuneralhome.com.

Contributions: In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Bill's name to East Hills Moravian Church, 1830 Butztown Road, Bethlehem, PA 18017.
