Steven Dean Likness, Pierre, died September 2, 2023, at Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Steve was born August 29, 1957, to James and Joan Likness in Brookings, South Dakota. After James accepted a job as Hughes County Agent with the SDSU Extension (now known as Extension Educators), the family moved to Pierre. Steve was the second of five children: his older brother, Mike and younger siblings, Karen, Paul and Mary. He graduated from T.F. Riggs High School in 1975. Growing up, Steve enjoyed playing tennis and skateboarding. And although there was sometimes mischief among the Likness kids, Steve was proud they always got along.
After graduating high school, Steve went on to attend Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, graduating with a degree in Mass Communications. Steve later became the manager of the State 123 Theatre in Pierre. As he made daily deposits from the Theatre at the drive-up window of American State Bank, he met Vicki Barth, a bank teller who worked at the drive-up. After a year of courtship, Steve and Vicki married on September 8, 1984, at Lutheran Memorial Church. To this union, Steve and Vicki were blessed with two children, Natalie and Mitchell. September 8th became extra special when Mitchell married his wife, Rachelle, in 2018.
Steve was a proud life member and Past Master of the Hiram Lodge 123 for 31 years; a member of the Scottish Rite Consistory in Yankton; the Naja Shrine Deadwood and President of the Yelduz Oahe Shrine Club. Steve was a servant and volunteer. He was always the first to sign up to cook pancakes on Saturday mornings and pick up trash annually along highway 14/34 leaving Fort Pierre. Steve loved to cook, watch golf and baseball, which he did regularly with his mom on Sunday afternoons. He was a loyal lifelong Minnesota Twins fan, even when they broke his heart. Steve loved music and movies and could quote lines from classics like My Favorite Year, The Big Lebowski, Blazing Saddles, The Godfather, and The Treasure of the Sierra Madre, and he knew the answer to every trivia question. He loved animals of all kinds. But above all, Steve loved and cherished his family.
Prior to his retirement in 2022, Steve was the Office Manager at JC Printing & Office Supplies in Pierre.
Grateful to have shared Steve's life are his wife, Vicki; his children, Natalie (Josh Schwartzkopf) and Mitchell (Rachelle); his mother, Joan; siblings Mike (Nancy), Karen (Gary Orcutt), Paul (Diane), and Mary (Colin Keeler); father-in-law, Ernie Barth; Vicki's siblings, Perry (Susie), Randy (Donna), and Patti (Mark Broer); and many special nieces and nephews.
Steve was preceded in death by his grandparents, his mother-in-law, Charlotte Barth, his father, James Likness, and great-nephews, James and Charles.
Arrangements are with Feigum Funeral home of Pierre.
