Stephen Michael Lucas, better known to us as Steve, was born on July 8, 1969, in Sacramento, California, and departed from this life too soon on February 1, 2024. Steve was a beacon of resilience and dedication, qualities that radiated in his professional life as an operator in a recycling center and in his personal life as a devoted family man. His smile was infectious, his sense of humor, unmatched; he was the kind of person who would turn a mundane day into a memorable one with his funny anecdotes and compassionate spirit.
Steve led an engaging life, filled with love for his family, sports, and animals. His most cherished moments were spent with his beloved daughter Michele, his dear grandkids, and his four pet cats. He was a steadfast fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Notre Dame University Fighting Irish. Steve found a kinship in the resilient spirit of the characters from the Rocky movies, a testament to his own ability to face challenges head-on and never give up. He was a dedicated family man, who held his loved ones close to his heart. His mother, Cheryl Lucas; his daughter, Michele Bryant; his siblings, Shawna Nelson, Landon Lucas, and Shelly Lucas-Myers, all remember Michael's strength and enduring love for them.
Despite moving away from his birthplace, Steve's roots stayed in Sacramento, California. He carried his hometown love to Neosho, Missouri, where he resided until his departure. Steve's faith as a Christian guided him through life, and it is the same faith that comforts us in his passing. As we remember Steve, let us find solace in Romans 14:8, "If we live, we live for the Lord; and if we die, we die for the Lord. So, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord."
Stephen Lucas was preceded in death by his father, James Lucas, and his granddaughter, Kendra Nichole. Services are under the direction of Simpson Funeral Home.
