Robert Steven "Steve" McClain

On Friday, August 29, 2025, the world lost a truly unique and kind spirit with the passing

of Robert Steven "Steve" McClain at the age of 77. Bom on June 8, 1948, in Indianapolis,

Indiana, Steve was the eldest son of C. James McClain and Betty Jean (Dunbar) McClain

McCormick. Both of his parents preceded him in death in 2011 and 2015, respectively.

A proud graduate of Warren Central High School (1966) and Purdue University (1970), Steve dedicated his professional life to sales in HVAC, swimming pools, and residential window replacement. To his friends and family, however, he was more than a businessman. He was a man known for his quick wit, generous heart, and unwavering enthusiasm for the things he loved most.

Steve was a devoted husband to his wife of 24 years, Janet McClain (Dunn), and a loving father to his daughters, Kimberlee Whitmore (John) of Franklin, TN, and Stephanie Carpenter (Jamie) of Franklin, IN. He was a doting grandfather to Corey Haynes and Alex Whitmore of Franklin, TN, and Savannah and Sadie Carpenter of Franklin, IN. His love for his family and cherished pets was matched only by his passions for his Purdue Athletics, horse racing, Indianapolis Colts, and especially his beloved Detroit Tigers Baseball Club.

He leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter and will be deeply missed by his wife, daughters, grandchildren, and his four brothers: Ronald J. McClain (Pam) of Indianapolis, IN; Roger A. McClain (Mary) of Indianapolis, IN; Richard L. McClain of Sachse, TX; and Douglas McClain (Cathy) of Port Charlotte, FL. He is also survived by his nephew Jason McClain (Megan) of Columbia, MD, and his nieces Kristen Holtsclaw (Mark) of Wiley, TX, and Ashley Ketchem (Tim) of Indianapolis, IN, along with many great-nieces and nephews. His unique spirit will always guide those he loved.

A Memorial Service will be held Friday, September 12, 2025, at 2pm with visitation from 12pm until the time-of-service at Wilson St. Pierre Funeral Service & Crematory, Greenwood Chapel, 481 W. Main Street, Greenwood IN.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Franciscan Hospice House 8414 Franciscan Lane Indianapolis, IN 46237

Long time friends with Steve as Cub Scouts , Little League Baseball, Jr. Hi and High School. It was great seeing him at the reunions. He really was a cool and calm person who I will greatly miss. Frequently when I would come to Indy I looked forward to seeing him and brother Ronnie. I will always remember him and his family. Steve was liked by everybody in school and was the coolest friend I ever had.
